The firm was created to fulfill a need in the business community for personalized tax and corporate consultation and planning.

Robert  Raich

Experience

Prior to establishing RaichLegal Inc, Robert Raich was a senior partner at Spiegel Sohmer Inc., a Montreal firm specializing in taxation law, where he served as managing partner for over 25 years.

His areas of expertise include taxation advice for real estate transactions, advice to both purchasers and vendors in acquisitions and sales of businesses,  corporate reorganizations, venture capital financing  and charitable planning.

At RaichLegal, Robert is able to create personalized plans for clients, then supervise their implementation by notarial, accounting and other law firms in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Recognition

Robert is regularly recognized as one of the “Best Lawyers in Canada” in the fields of Taxation Law and the Law of Estates and Trusts, including his most recent nomination in 2024-2025. He has also been ranked by his peers as a “Leading Practitioner” in the fields of Estates and Personal Tax Planning in The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory on numerous occasions, most recently in 2024.

Courses | Conferences

Robert assisted in the design of a tax course currently being offered by the McGill University Faculty of Law, where he is a frequent guest lecturer. He is a sought-after lecturer at numerous tax conferences and has presented papers on a wide variety of tax topics over the years at the annual Canadian Tax Conference held by the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Montreal and the Lord Reading Law Society. He is also a contributor to various tax journals, such as CA Magazine and the Tax Management International Journal. He is frequently asked to provide commentary on budgets and economic papers on CTV News, as can be seen from the clip below:

Education

Robert Raich graduated from McGill University and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1976.
